Ashby Elementary School

ABOUT ASHBY ELEMENTARY
THE COMMUNITY

The North Middlesex Regional School District, serving the towns of Ashby, Pepperell and Townsend, is located in the north/central section of Massachusetts on the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border. The three towns served by the district cover approximately 80 square miles and are located in the suburbs near the cities of Fitchburg, Lowell, Worcester and Nashua, NH. The district, which is growing in size, is fewer than 50 miles northwest of Massachusetts' capital city, Boston. Residents of the area are to be found working in a wide variety of vocations in the high technology, higher education, plastics, and paper enterprises that are prominent in the region.
A unit of the state college system is located in nearby Fitchburg, and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell is only fifteen miles from the district. Lakes, mountains and state parks abound in the area with the mountain and seashore activities of New Hampshire and Cape Cod only one and one-half hour's drive away.
Each town has a separate town meeting/selecmen form of government. A single Regional School Commitee, with membership from each of the three towns, is responsible for the operation of the schools.

THE SCHOOL SYSTEM

The school district povides a modern educational program, grades Pre K-12, for constituency that has consistently placed a high value on the quality of its schools. Approximately 5,000 students are enrolled in the district's five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. Serving the district are a professional staff of 385 and a support staff of 210.

ASHBY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Ashby Elementary School is a K-5 school of approximately 275 students with an excellent faculty and support staff of 45 members. It has established a close-knit, caring atmosphere and a proud local tradition of providing a quality education for Ashby children. The school has made a strong effort to maintain small class sizes with most classes generally containing 25 students or fewer.
Ashby Elementary School has a School Council comprised of faculty members, parents and community representatives who make recommendations to improve the school through the development of yearly Core Value goals. There is also an active Parent-Teacher Cooperative (PTC) and a well-organized parent volunteer program. Bi-weekly parent newsletters, newspaper articles, and parent conferences promote regular communication.
Ashby Elementary School's Mission Statement is as follows: The community of the Ashby Elementary School is devoted to providing an environment that is conducive to learning both academically and socially while fostering self-esteem and respect. We strive to promote process and product in academic and enrichment experiences.
The AshbyElementary School has made a strong commitment to help children acquire competence in all basic skill areas and develop their critical thinking. A full day kindergarten program has been available as Ashby Elementary School since the 1994-95 school year.
A number of afterschool programs are available to students throughout the school year including intramural sports, drama, guitar, and a variety of afterschool enrichment programs. Special programs such as student field days, awards day, and the Nature's Classroom environmental/team building week in the fifth grade help to provide Ashby Elementary School students with a wide range of memorable learning and social activities.
Ashby Elementary School continues to be committed to a team effort among faculty/staff members, parents and the community designed to assist students in achieving academic, social and emotional growth.
